Free furniture making classes 2025
The aim of Circular Margate is to reimagine materials as social assets, through their diversion to community projects and their use in education, skills learning and employment.
In Spring 2025, we will be delivering free furniture making classes, using reclaimed materials from the Circular Margate project.
These classes will teach simple jointing techniques to make a piece of furniture that the recipients can take away with them at the end.
The aim is to use reclaimed materials to enhance technical skills and employability, promote inclusion and signpost people to the possibilities of implementing circular principles.
This project prototypes the processes of our proposed ‘Materials Hub’, where materials will be received and processed, and space will be provided for education, skills development, and employment.
This project has been funded by Thanet District Council as part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund

Where are these materials from?
The materials have been donated by Turner Contemporary.
In their previous life, they were a set of display plinths in the ‘Beyond Form’ exhibition. These plinths were deconstructed, removed and processed by TC and CM.
What is the schedule for the classes?
Each class consists of 2 days, with 4 hours each day.
It will be in a friendly, supportive atmosphere, guided by a teacher who has many years of experience of making furniture.
Who is this for?
These workshops are for anyone of any skill level. You can be an absolute beginner, an improver or even for a maker looking to add a new string to your bow.
We ask that use the form to give us much as info about yourself, so we can put people in the right classes.
What will i receive?
As well as new skills, you will make a simple piece of furniture that you can take away with you!!!
